20TA02  Recall Campaign Information

Overview:

The subject vehicles are equipped with a low-pressure fuel pump which may stop operating. If this were to occur, warning lights and messages may be displayed on the instrument panel, and the engine may run rough. This may result in a vehicle stall, and the vehicle may be unable to be restarted. If a vehicle stall occurs while driving at higher speeds, this could increase the risk of a crash.

In less formal terms, the fuel pump could stop sending gas to the vehicle resulting in a stall.

What Happens:

The technician will replace the vehicle’s fuel pump. This includes lowering the tank or accessing the fuel tank from inside the vehicle through the back seat.

Vehicles that have to be accessed from the interior are Non-Hybrid Highlander, Camry, Corolla, 4Runner, RAV4 and Avalon.

What to do:

Run the customer’s VIN in TIS to confirm the campaign.

The campaign will look like this:

Protocol:

Please request that the customer remove any debris from the back seat of the vehicle if the tank is accessed through the interior.  This will allow the technician to make a proper inspection and cut down on the customer wait time. Particularly, child seats will need to be removed by the owner, and properly re-installed by the owner.

The customer should come in with half of a tank of gas or less. Remember, the technician could be working on the interior of a vehicle, and a full tank could spill in the vehicle.
