K0D Recall Campaign Information

Overview:

The K0D Campaign is a recall for certain model Tacomas between 2011-2017. Toyota found that the frames of these vehicles tend to rust at a faster rate in cold weather areas where salt was applied to the roads.

In effort to help prevent corrosion to the vehicle’s frame, the vehicle is sprayed with a Corrosion Resistant Compound or CRC.

What Happens:

When the Tacoma comes in for service, the vehicle is inspected and 1 of 3 things may occur as next actions for the vehicle:

  • The vehicle had the CRC applied while it was in port prior to sale, and plugs need to be installed

  • The frame was inspected by the technician and found to be in good condition and the CRC will be applied to the vehicle

  • The frame does not pass technical inspection and must be replaced.

What to do:

Run the customer’s VIN in TIS to confirm the campaign.

There are two types of messages that would appear if the customer has the open recall and it is important to note if the application has been applied prior to sale or not. That will adjust your protocol in the next section. The two options are pictured below:

Protocol:

If the customer needs a frame spray as noted in TIS. The customer is to be scheduled, and is eligible for a rentalFill out the customer's Name, Phone Number, and VIN for the date they have scheduled. Inform the customer that they will be getting a call the week prior to set up their rental agreement and gather information. At that time, they will need insurance and driver’s license to complete the agreement process.

Reach out to Kulp or internal rental representatives to schedule a vehicle for the customer to pick up at the time of their appointment.

If the customer is only receiving plugs, or has had the CRC applied prior to sale, the customer is not eligible for a rental.
